is supposed to act a certain way. They should act with common sense protocol as well as embrace the requirements of the organizations for which they work. When employees violate
professional normative behavior, it reflects poorly on entire organizations. When a few years ago Rodney King was beaten by police officers, it gave the entire profession a poor reputation. In
fact, the police are supposed to be exemplary citizens so when they act poorly, it is quite embarrassing for profession. In combing the Internet, there are unfortunately many cases of
unprofessional conduct exhibited by police officers. For instance, one officer by the name of James Ruland actually arrested a candidate for drunk driving but failed to show for the hearing
("Unprofessional conduct reflects," 2003). It is thought that Ruland did not show up because at the time of the arrest, he was in an official police car out of city
limits, and was off duty ("Unprofessional conduct reflects," 2003). He did wrong on two counts: he was not present for an important court case and he was not supposed to
be out of city limits with the car in the first place. Sometimes, there is unprofessional conduct and it is dealt with within the force. In the case of Ruland,
little was likely done. It was not an egregious mistake and some suggest that he was not out of bounds by taking the patrol car out of city limits. In
any event, his overall behavior wreaks of unprofessionalism. Sometimes, when examining unprofessional behavior, things are much worse. Complaints are lodged by citizens or other officers. Sometimes, such things end up
in court as it did with the US Court of Appeals Lydia Glover v. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division ("Glover v. SC," 2005). Glover brought the case because she was
