human symbol similar to the English letter E across the face of Frankfurt, Germany. In Belgium, fifty ice skaters spread across a Brussels rink to form a series of
these symbols, graphic representations differing from the familiar fifth alphabet letter by the addition of two parallel lines running horizontally across their face. This symbol represents epsilon, the fifth
letter of the alphabet in the ancient language of Greece, the land whose inhabitants first introduced the concept of the polis, or city-state, and is credited with being "the cradle
