1948 when Palestine was partitioned into Jewish Israel. At that time the Arab League immediately made plans to do battle with this "new Jewish homeland" (Palestine 1948 PG) to
reclaim it for the Palestinians. The Jewish people had better equipment and more advanced training, and because of this were able to thwart their attackers. In the end they
even were able to gain the Holy City of Jerusalem as well as the western Negev Desert. The Palestinians lost, however, what the Jews took over and they
were then forced to take refuge in the neighboring Arab states. The result of this action was that "one million Palestinian refugees were exiles from their homeland and a
liability to their new caretakers" (Palestine 1948 PG). THE SUEZ CRISIS OF 1956 The Suez Canal was a location of prime importance to many countries due to international
trade. When it was nationalized in 1956 by the Egyptian President, it caused great strife for both France and Britain due to the amount of international trade coming through
the Canal for them. There was a plan hatched between France, Great Britain and Israel to overtake the canal when Israel attacked Egypt. The plan was that France
and Great Britain would pretend to intervene to protect the canal when in fact they would be overtaking it. The attack took place as planned in October of
1956, but about mid-November there were emergency task troops that arrived in the Suez Canal Zone. After that the troops in the area began to move out, and negotiations
