United States went to war with Spain. United States and War with Spain In understanding why the United States went to war
with Spain it is perhaps important to understand some of the history of Spain and Cuba. It was during the late 1700s that "Cuba was restored to Spain, and a
new era of peace with great prosperity was inaugurated under the sagacious guidance of Captain-General Las Casas, who entered upon his duties in 1790" (Volume I of The Great Republic
by the Master Historians, 2007). However, it appears as though Spain treated Cuba with less than kindness and this particular author notes that had Spain "treated its subjects in Cuba
with anything like reasonable consideration that loyalty need not have turned to hate" (Volume I of The Great Republic by the Master Historians, 2007).
In the 1800s a great deal of oppression had been experienced by the nation as it came from Spain and a party formed who aimed to urge Spain
to grant Cuba religious and civil rights, without removing Cuba from Spains control (Volume I of The Great Republic by the Master Historians, 2007). It was at this point that
