and retain soldiers. This has been true since the end of the Cold War and it has been true since the September 11, 2001 attacks on America. There was an
upsurge in volunteers for military service immediately following that attack but it did not last. In fact, it is this situation that has caused the Department of Defense to redeploy
soldiers and other military personnel multiple times and/or extend the duration of duty in combat zones. The truth is that it has been difficult to recruit sufficient military personnel
since the system was changed to an all-volunteer status. In this student writers personal opinion, this is a sad comment on the patriotism of American citizens. And, that attitude has
emerged since the 1960s when so many Americans decided that life should be about them and nothing else, not their country, not their church, not anything. It should be clear
by now that enacting regulations that did away with mandated service to country was wrong. It was morally wrong, it was strategically wrong, and it was politically wrong and it
has fostered and encouraged the me-attitude. Every country should require service from every citizen as Israel does. The strategic human resource recommendation is to re-enact the draft with no loopholes
with the exception of health or severe hardship, like a farmer whose farm would be destroyed without the farmers work. This is part of the argument that would be made
