Reaganomics and the idea of the trickle down effect, something that most union workers do not buy. In any event, despite the fact that unionism might not be as prominent
as it was at the turn of the twentieth century, as the twenty-first unfolds, it seems as if it is here to stay. And while unions are quite popular in
many industries, members often complain about the spending. Members do contribute a lot of money in dues and some wonder what the money is being spent on. Others do not
feel that the unions should be so political as the organizations often give money away to politicians and endorse candidates. Of course, in the world of unions, politics are important.
First, a look at where the money goes, and how much goes to the political machine is appropriate. II. Union Spending on Politics A student asks, "On
average, how much money do unions spend politically? What percent of union dues typically go to lobbying and political contributions?" The answers are not crystal clear, but there are some
estimates. Unions spend quite a lot of money on politics and endorsing candidates. They spend money on issues. This is because what happens politically does affect unions. Laws affect working
