in the region as well as to aid the Lebanese government in establishing control over the southern area ("Unifils Changing Role," 2006). It was a mission that has seemingly failed.
It was designed in such a way that carrying out the task at hand would be troublesome ("Unifils Changing Role," 2006). It is a mission that includes about two thousand
soldiers from various countries, but primarily from France ("Unifils Changing Role," 2006). Unifil was supposed to really be a peace-keeping mission, but it is difficult to keep peace in a
volatile region. In fact, Unifil was not able to control Hizbolah at all ("Unifils Changing Role," 2006). It has however been effective in helping the citizens to leave the country,
something that is difficult in times of war ("Unifils Changing Role," 2006). Hence, it has been a bit successful, but the overall mission has not really been executed properly. It
pays to note that Unifil is not a single organization that is separate and apart from other entities. It is a part of the United Nations, and because of
that, in exploring Unifil, the UN must be considered. The history of the United Nations and Unifil as well as the changing role for both are important issues. In order
