When examining the condition of obesity among children in America today it is often noted that technology has had a lot to do with obesity. Too many children do little
more than go to school, come home and play video games or watch television. One author notes that, "Researchers found that youngsters who grow up in families with bad eating
habits and lifestyles dominated by TV and video games are 33.3% more likely to become overweight or obese as young adults" (The Liverpool Post & Echo Ltd. Daily Post, 2005).
As such the physical activity most children are receiving is not what it was a couple of generations ago. And, another aspect of technology is seen in the economics of
food, something that is very important and relevant in the United States. This author notes, "Technological change (e.g. industrial revolution) has lowered the cost of calorie intake by making food
cheaper and has raised the cost of expending calories by transforming physical exercise from a vocational activity to an off-the-job leisure activity" (Philipson; Posner, 2006). In addition, one could well
