1957, Enterprise Rent-a-Car has differentiated itself from other car rental companies from the beginning. As the industry developed, other companies focused on air travelers and placed their locations on expensive airport leases. Enterprise focused on a niche market largely ignored by Hertz, Avis and its other competitors, choosing instead to place its locations far away from airports, sprinkled in suburban neighborhoods and in downtown areas where it gained its customers from individuals needing short-term transportation for diverse, local reasons. The purpose here is to assess the environment local to Hackensack, NJ. The paper recommends that Hackensack Enterprise enhances profitability through low-cost promotion within the local community. Area Demographics Hackensack lies only twelve miles from midtown Manhattan; the Manhattan skyline is visible from many areas of the city (Hackensack, New Jersey, n.d.). Hackensacks population was estimated to be 42,804 in July 2008, which represents a 0.3 percent increase from the time of the last Census in 2000 (Hackensack, New Jersey, n.d.). In 2000 the land area of Hackensack was only four square miles, for a population density of 10,358.5 people per square mile (State & County QuickFacts, n.d.).
