and social culture, the role of family is also identified as a general construct of the study. The ethnographic analysis will also include an assessment of patterns of loyalty,
authority and conflict that occur both in the social environment and in the workplace. In order to gain insight into the underlying reasons for employment choices, this study will
also consider the possible implications of economic and social changes in the world at large and the implications for patterns of employment. Conceptual Framework and Research Question
The conceptual framework for the study is based on the view that family is the major factor influencing choices in social culture, social environment, and in employment choices, as noted
by the subject population. As a result, the conceptual framework is linked to the assertion that family is one of the most important components of the ethnographic community being
studied and that familial structures influence the actions of minority faculty members. Family provides faculty with a base from which they can compare their employment experiences and can understand the
impacts of acculturation on their self-identification. In particular, minority faculty members in colleges with large white/male professional populations often find that they modify their behaviors or adjust their sense
of self in comparison with the predominant population. As a result, rejection of their sense of self as defined by family can be a negative indicator of satisfaction with
