nation status" (MFN). Though China has established itself as a self-supporting agricultural state, it has also continued to develop as a primary trade partner with the US and
the constantly increasing technologies utilized by China have marked significant trade changes. One of the many concerns for American politicians is the pirating of American technologies, and imposed trade
sanctions have been in response to this concern. There are also definitive concerns about Chinas record of human rights violations and the status of Chinas relationship with Taiwan.
Even in light of the current issues with China, the increased gross domestic product (GDP) and the rapid economic development in that region have shaped the way
the US is responding to Chinas political policies. It is clear that China is a trade force that needs to be recognized, and the US interaction is necessary in
light of their increasing production and trade figures. In order to understand Chinas policies, importance in world trade, and participation with the United States, it is important first
to understand the economic history of Sino-American relations and understand how this relates to current trade figures. Only by understanding the trends that mark the current economic situation is
