the community in which its located. But one doesnt just "start" a university; it takes time, money, a community of committed people and students who are willing to begin attending
a school with a limited curriculum and history. A university also requires land and capital expenditure. Even with these things in place, the university would require a mission, a strategy
and analysis. In this paper, weve been asked to develop a marketing plan for a new university that is to be established. Were
assuming, for purposes of this paper, that things like infrastructure, money and land arent at issue, and that the university already has willing support from the community in which it
will exist and a potential student population that needs this school. Well also assume that other things, such as a board of directors and infrastructure requirements, are also in place.
The main purpose behind this particular plan is to discuss the environmental analysis and marketing requirements that would be required to make this school a success.
Before we go further into this plan, however, it would be a good idea to determine the geographic area were targeting. Well assume that this is a
university for a secondary market (in other words, population is between one million and three million people). Well also assume that the only other college within reasonable distance (50 miles
or less) is a junior college that offers a two-year curriculum and a handful of associate degrees upon departure. But there is some talk that the junior college may be
