European city-states operate under one currency, trade blocs become stronger, conversion rates across borders become fewer and the world finds it easier, overall, to trade with Europe.
But there is more to converting to a single currency than simply saying "okay, its done." Currencies, for the most part, are a way in which
a country identifies itself. Currency is also a way in which countries set economic policies. And as a country, the UK is very much aware of what movement toward a
euro economy could mean to them, on both the positive and negative sides. In this paper, well examine both sides of the UK-euro
question, and determine if now is the right time for the UK to move toward the euro. Well be using a literature review to try to better understand whats being
written about this situation, and at the end of the paper, well try to draw conclusions on this controversial topic. Statement of the Problem
As with anything as great as changing currencies, there are those who are supporting it and those who are against it. The supporters of Britain moving off the pound/sterling
system to the euro basically note that from an economic perspective, the euro will provide more purchasing power for the UK. Those who are against note that a countrys currency
is part of its sovereignty, and willingly giving that up means a country loses its national identity. The Institute of Directors in 1999
