US international relations are predicated on a diversity of considerations.
One of those considerations is the relative degree of threat that a country poses to the world. Today that threat is most often defined in terms of nuclear weapons.
Both India and Pakistan tested nuclear weapons in 1998 and that testing initially resulted in US sanctions. The consequent relations those countries had with the US, however, was
characterized by ups and downs. While the US now loosely considers both India and Pakistan as friends, Pakistan is regarded more with suspicion and trepidation. This is true
despite the fact that we have been friendlier with Pakistan for a longer part of our history than we have been with India. Indeed, our relationship with India only
significantly began to improve after the Cold War years. The rights and responsibilities of the United States as a global police
force have never been more forcefully questioned than they are in todays volatile world where countries flagrantly pursue their own desires despite the fact that pursuit is in direct opposition
to the wishes not just of the US but of the more technologically advanced countries on earth. The US role as a
