In recent decades, however, American public schools have been declining, and accusations are flying that they are no longer effective. This paper considers four themes dealing with education today, as identified in the movie "Teachers." Discussion Teachers was filmed in 1984, and even then schools were in trouble. The film depicts life at the fictional John F. Kennedy High School, and for a change is shot from the teachers perspective (Maslin, 1984). Here is a rich field of themes to discuss: structural deficiencies, underfunding, overcrowding, bullying, crime on campus, inappropriate conduct, and terrible hiring practices. Its difficult to narrow it down to just four, but lets consider underfunding (because nothing can change unless there is money and support to help the change); bullying (which ...
