the United States. There are those who feel that this is the only way to maintain control on illegal immigration. There are those who argue it is a futile attempt
to keep illegal immigrants out and is only costing the United States a great deal of money. The following paper examines the two sides to the controversy of the border
fence. U.S.-Mexico Border Fence Some who argue in favor of the fence argue that while changes can be made internally and internationally, the fence is necessary to limit
the strain on the nation concerning illegal immigrants. One individual notes the following in these regards: "[I]f you grant amnesty to the 10, or 11 or 12 million...illegal immigrants already
in this country you will draw tens of millions more from Latin America and around the world, because the message youll be sending is come here illegally and we dont
care...So-but if you put that fence up and prevent anybody else from coming in illegally, then you have more latitude to extend citizenship to the people already here" (Carlson).
In Carlsons article, an interview, the man he is interviewing actually argues that "By and large, there is no argument against the fence" (Carlson). He indicates that what people are
against is the symbolic nature, the emotional nature, of a fence, something he claims the President did not like either. But, at the same time "Americans feel like immigration is
out of control" and this is one of the main arguments in favor of the fence, an argument that focuses on how the fence will keep illegal immigrants out while
