beginning of their processes. Safety becomes a significant element in their organizational culture. The U.S. Marine Corps has a deeply-embedded safety culture that allows it to have its members regularly
conduct training and activities in extremely dangerous conditions and remain safe, all while successfully completing the training or activity. This paper will identify the ways in which the Marine Corps
has made safety paramount as part of a broader Safety Culture, and why this makes it so successful. Introduction Throughout time, man has faced safety risks. A great deal
of history reflects how groups assessed risk and what they did to minimize it. We cannot totally escape risk no matter what we do. Risk management involves assessing potential future
risks and taking steps to avoid them, thereby protecting the organizations assets (Miller, 2011). Risk is a hot topic in the private sector because of the rapid changes in
technology, information, and market. These organizations become involved in enterprise risk management, which is defined as an ongoing process that affects every department in the organization (COSO, 2004). The process
is affected by the people who work throughout the entire organization. When risk management steps are applied across the enterprise, risk assessment and management become the responsibility of everyone.
