Introduction Elements of the international strategy equation include the objectives of preserving independence, maintaining freedom and preserving the territorial integrity of the United States. Maintaining U.S. allied
interests abroad is another part of the equation and helping to shape a world where freedom and democracy reign is also an important dimension in foreign policy. Shaping a world
where international states can coexist without the use of force is an important goal of the United States. And while that is a worthy goal, it is not always possible.
Because the world is a dangerous place, military prowess, strategic alliances and savvy foreign policy is vital in maintaining the world order. II.
Instruments of Foreign Policy While foreign policy is aligned with ideology, it must be effected with the use of instruments or methods. These methods vary and include things
such as alliances and cultural exchanges. First, in looking at alliances, there are two types, one of which is military and another is economic. Military alliances have been exemplified in
recent times as Britain had come to the aid of the United States after the attack on the World Trade Center. However, that alliance is based on years of political
