a husband. In this story one of his daughters is Tzeitel, a young woman who is very much a reflection of her father and his dreamy nature. But, the father
wants more for her than she is willing to settle for in many ways. The following paper presents a tutorial look at the perceptions Tzeitel may have in relationship to
her father, her world, her family, and her life. Tzeitel Tzeitel realizes that all marriages in the Jewish tradition under which she lives are arranged, or were arranged
in the past. Tzeitel, however, is a woman of a new age, a new sense of reasoning and dreaming. She has her own mind and although her mother and father
had an arranged marriage that seems to have worked, Tzeitel will not marry the man her parents have chosen for her, this is far too much and will destroy her
spirit and leave her depressed for entirety. Her father has chosen for her, "the wealthy butcher Lazar Wolf" who Tzeitel finds repulsive and depressing (Berardinelli). She wants to marry, and
will marry, her childhood sweetheart who may be a poor tailor, but she is her true love and she will not agree to marry anything less than the man she
loves. She will defy tradition because the world is changing and she feels the future of her people, and all people, are better served through following ones heart. Tzeitel loves
her mother and father and is proud of her father. She knows that her father is very determined to follow tradition, but she knows that his love for her is
