Since Vietnam, the world has become a much smaller place and the global arena has become increasingly complex in terms of war. It can be inferred from Nye
(1993) that the Cold War between the U.S. and Soviet Union expanded the terminology of warfare, and set the complex stage for Vietnam and Gulf Wars. A student of
international relations must be aware that there are three basic types of conflicts -- limited war, guerrilla war and terrorism. A limited war is a fairly new concept in terms
of international warfare and describes a war which is "fought for limited political purposes" (Spanier, 1978; 213) by the participant. The goal in a limited war is usually the
capture of a territory which is targeted by an external and powerful region either for its strategic location or for its economic importance (Spanier, 1978). A limited war is
a highly sophisticated military operation utilizing the latest technology. In contrast, guerrilla warfare is the capturing of a nation for the purpose of completely transforming its social, political and
economic structures (Spanier, 1978). In other words, ideology rather than territorial expansion is the primary target. It is considered to be an internal conflict sparked by nationalists who
wish to overthrow the government through conventional "advance and retreat" methods (Spanier, 1978). Terrorism is a type of warfare primarily implemented by authoritarian regimes to achieve political aims through
oppression and violence. Targeting policy is more obscure in terrorism because the purpose can be either suppressing regional conflicts or merely to make a radical political statement through violent
