of conduct disorder. Recognizing conduct disorder as being brought on through the cognitive process is one of these methods, and recognizing conduct disorder as being brought about through the
affective process is another way. Both methods are thoroughly covered in this paper. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AFFECTIVE AND COGNITIVE The important
thing is discovering how a child came to be subject to this disorder. Two methods have been recommended: Cognitive background reasons and the affective reasons. Affect can be described
as the beginning of "all knowledge construction" (Fleckenstein, PG, 2001). Affect is one of the elements of cognition, and at the same time it is not considered to be
only a product of cognition. It is this interweaving of the two that make it sometimes difficult to ascertain the difference. Cognition involves the reasoning processes and the use
of garnering information. In other words, incoming information is modified and transformed in the mind into certain data structures. Affect is a little more difficult to understand because
it involves emotions. Some of the terms that might be used in relation to affect would be "emotions, feelings, moods, preferences, beliefs, attitudes, motivations, and evaluations" (Fleckenstein, PG, 2001).
The actions of a conduct disorder, then, are formed with a minimum of cognitive assessment but with more of an affective one. This is important to realize because this
