5 sources. SA144Amr.rtf In the early days of the United States, there were different ideas bandied about concerning freedom and democracy and things of that
nature. A student writing on this subject will probably want to point out that before the revolutionary period, one that most are familiar with, there was the Enlightenment era where
new ideas emerged. It was a time prior to the period when radicalism would emerge. Radicalism was certainly apparent in the American Revolution.
There are historians which see the revolution as a stepping stone to greater things and this would occur in the following decade when the Constitution was established for example. However,
many see the mid-1700s as a radical time period and one that is different from its previous state during the Enlightenment. The period through the end of the American Revolution,
or the Enlightenment, is rather significant and radical in its own right. During the 1600s there was a great deal of philosophical thought as Puritans came to America. Prior to
the Revolution such ideals come through in writings by infamous Americans. For example, John Adams wrote a Dissertation on the Canon and the Federal Law. This writing paved the way
for resistance to England. And that was the thinking around at the time just prior to the Revolution. It is also important to look at the history of the
