Of course, that definition supposes that ideology is only a weapon of control, but it does seem that ideology has to do with the ideal state. What is the ideal state for a nation to take on? For example, there is Marxism and its antithesis, democracy. Supporters of each fervently believe that it is their right to embrace their ideology wholeheartedly, even if it means that human life is lost. In viewing the horrendous September 11th attacks, how would each view materialize? First, in looking at the Marxist perspective, one has to see the United States as evil and while it is not necessarily true that a Marxist would suggest anyone deserves the fate of the World Trade Center workers, Marx was not a peaceful individual. He saw that the common man would have to rise up and fight against evil. The terrorists purportedly see the United States as the Great Satan. Hence, the attack on the United States is justifiable to the perpetrators. Of course, again, one cannot assume that Karl Marx would ever approve of such a horrendous act, but one can take the ideology of communism and see how another might interpret the events. After all, Marx saw something like this occurring, but it was thought that it might occur within the borders of a nation for example and not be an international situation as what occurred. It would also have been on a smaller scale.
