Synopsis Genetic abnormalities often have distinct physical, cognitive, and behavioral manifestations. They are also sometimes
sex specific. One such abnormality, Turners Syndrome, affects only females. Turners Syndrome results in distinct physical malformations and often, in fact, initial diagnosis is based on those malformation.
Fortunately, in most cases this aspect of treating Turners Syndrome is largely straightforward and successful. Physical abnormalities resulting from the syndrome can often be corrected relatively easily using
hormone growth therapy. Hormone growth therapy, however, only addresses the height issues associated with this syndrome. Other problems that are associated with it must be addressed as well.
These potentially include behavioral issues, cardiac and renal problems, and cognitive function. The earlier and individual with Turners Syndrome is diagnosed, the earlier treatment can begin and the
more likely it is to be successful. Introduction
