juveniles as adults, the trend is likely to continue as crime in general and the severity of youth crime increases. General information: A short history of the
attitude concerning juveniles and crime (there is a great deal of opportunity for the student to expand the paper in this area). The existing laws and regulations that allow
for juveniles to be tried as adults. Proponents: This section includes the reasons that juveniles should be tried as adults. Among them: fear of crime, curtailment
and the expression of outrage concerning the increased number and severity of crimes perpetrated by juveniles. An example is provided. Opponents: This section provides a summary
of the reasons that have been given as to why juveniles should not be tried as adults. Among them: the possibility of abuse in the form of homosexual rape
and other forms of violence; there is no indication that trying the juvenile as an adult has the effect of deterrence or that recidivism is less likely; the power of
prosecutors remains unchecked in a society that allows for judicial decisions to be made on a lower level than what is allowed for adults and there are significant problems encountered
by the managers and administrators when a juvenile is reminded to an adult facility. Conclusion: Provides a summary of the points made in the text of the paper and
argues that the need to try juveniles as adults is based on the increased severity of crimes being committed and the trend toward a tougher outlook on criminal behavior.
