Australian history as he is "Australias most notorious bushranger" (Mazaworld, 2008). However, there have long been people who felt he was nothing but a horrible murderer and then those
who felt he was something of a mythical hero of sorts, representing the people and their struggles. In Peter Careys work True History of the Kelly Gang, a fictional work,
he presents the figure of Kelly as nothing short of a hero, a pure example of strength and vulnerability. The following paper analyzes Careys work. The History of the
Kelly Gang The critical framework of culture: As noted, this work is aimed at detailing who one of the most legendary figures in
Australian history was. He is also detailing the history of Australia, the culture of Australia in relationship to the immigrants, and the Irish as well. In essence, he is working
to offer the reader a very mythical being, although also historical, as though he were the one figure who represented Australian history and culture.
Values: In offering the reader a fictional account of Kellys life, through Kellys voice, one is only given the values of Kelly. Kelly was an Irishman in his
soul it would seem and clearly accustomed to oppression and anger. He represented the people, the Irish people and others who had been oppressed by landowners, and as such was
a man who clearly stood for values of freedom and opportunity in the face of injustice. Attitudes: The attitudes in this work
