Essay / Research Paper Abstract
London is so often associated with fog and blustery weather that it seems amazing that it would be a place for tourists. This 42 page paper explores four aspects of the English culture: the transportation system, family life within the subculture of Rastafarians in Brixton, the relationship between historic landmarks in London and present day tradition and use and a short section on the sociological aspects of shopping. The interest that propelled me to visit England was a love of Reggae music and a curiosity about the Rastafarian culture. I was invited to visit and to share the home of a Rasta brethren who is also a reggae entertainer. I spent most of my time there exploring the world of music, specifically Reggae. This meant going to clubs, radio stations and recording studios as well as meeting and 'reasoning' with other Rastafarians. I was able to do some of the more traditional sightseeing in London: Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, the Tower of London, Big Ben, the Royal Academy and the area surrounding Piccadilly. I used the transportation system extensively in and out of London and was able to sample most of the different types of public transportation. The paper is generalized from personal experience and as such, contains personal opinions and cultural biases. Bibliography lists 17 sources.
