1911. It was a fire that to many, in retrospect, seems somewhat reminiscent of 9/11 as people threw themselves from the building to their death, and many were ultimately trapped inside, caught in the fire. David Von Drehle relives, and reexamines, this particular event in history, discussing union issues, safety, and ultimate change in factories. The following paper examines this book. Triangle: The Fire that Changed America by David Von Drehle David Von Drehle is a journalist and writes for the Washington Post. He is also the author of a couple of books. This particular work is very reflective of his journalistic position for it is something of an investigation of the fire in 1911. He uncovers old documents and history to further examine, perhaps with a fresh eye, the disaster that left many in despair. One could well argue that there are many theses to this work. For example, he could be illustrating the horrible conditions people endured, the greed of industry, some racial or gender injustice, that the fire was intentional to stop union efforts, or attempting to prove who all was involved. But, as the title suggests the most prominent thesis is how this fire changed something in America. The author begins by illustrating many people and movements involving strikes as they related to this particular factory. As such it is obvious that the one thing that perhaps changes by the end of the book involves unions and the safety and rights of the workers.
