traditional values such as political conservatism, the sanctity of marriage, the importance of keeping ourselves free of drugs and behaviors that compromise our health and make us less of a person, today we have moved far away from those values. Marriage is no longer regarded as a holy union but rather as a temporary arrangement to entitle one to the legal and social benefits once reserved for married couples. Politically we argue about such things as the inherent rights of a woman to kill her unborn child. Popular American cultural is now broaching on a cultural void, a void where our societal mores have declined to a point which some say is a point of no return. Divorce rates in our country are at an all time high as are the number of dysfunctional families that are struggling to barely keep their heads above water. The reason for this and the various other negative trends that we are witnessing in our society is declining societal mores. This decline can also be attributed to industrialization and the dissolution of the nuclear families of old that characterized our primarily agrarian lifestyles. Mostly, however, it is due to us as a society allowing these changes to occur. In this day of liberalism, this day of where every problem is believed to be best addressed not by us but rather by our government that is where we turn for resolution. While it is certainly a convenient tendency to place the blame on our government or some other entity, the harsh reality is that only we have control over our families.
