concerning the computer, is relatively new thus leading to a whole new world of law and legal issues. The following paper examines a case of legal concern involving Trend Micro
and Barracuda. Trend Micro and Barracuda It appears as though the case between Trend Micro and Barracuda involves the legal element
of intellectual property. As one author notes, "Intellectual property, or IP, in the form of patents is, in theory, how we reward those who break new ground, explore strange new
technologies, geek out new algorithms and new gadgets, and boldly go where no techie has gone before" (Gibbs, 2008). They indicate that the field of intellectual property has essentially become
a field that is powerfully confusing and messy due to the fact that many people are getting patents for ideas that are not "novel" by any stretch of the imagination
(Gibbs, 2008). This author indicates that being "novel" was a requirement in the past for receiving a patent (Gibbs, 2008). Gibbs (2008), after offering this introduction and explanation of the
