condition. The most successful treatment thus far has been a combination of drugs which is commonly referred to as anti-retroviral treatment. People call them cocktails because they are a mixture
of various drugs all aimed at slowing the process of HIV/AIDS. The following paper examines HAART (Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy) as it is used to treat HIV/AIDS and then discusses
other possibilities that are arising in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. HAART First and foremost it is commonly now understood that for any antiretroviral treatment to be helpful in
the treatment of HIV/AIDS many different antiretroviral drugs need to be administered or taken. This is called Combination Therapy, and "the term Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) is used to
describe a combination of three or more anti-HIV drugs" (Introduction to HIV and AIDS Treatment, 2004). It is often claimed that using a minimum of three drugs is the best
and most effective treatment of HIV/AIDS at the moment. The reason that three drugs are recommended is because if only one is taken the positive effects of the drug

and AIDS Treatment, 2004). Then the virus will begin to reproduce itself as though no drugs were ever taken because the virus becomes immune to the drug. However, if two
or more of the antiretroviral drugs are taken the chances of such immunity to the treatment is lessened a great deal. There are apparently four different primary groups of
anti-HIV drugs. As would be expected, each of these groups of drugs attacks or affects HIV in a very different way, thus attacking the virus from many different angles. The
