as in the United States. Some consider the Enlightenment to be a blanket term, defining one of several dominant intellectual movements in the eighteenth century (McLeish, 1993). Further, its roots
can be traced back to earlier days such as the Reformation that occurred during the sixteenth century (McLeish, 1993). Indeed, over time, the transition in thinking would go from
a religious fervor to a secular time in history where various issues were explored and there would be a frenzy of creativity. And while the period lasted for a time,
its effects are felt to this day. Had it not been for the transition, people today might be more repressed, more religious and less free. Ideas would take
shape in the form of the Enlightenment and these would embrace the concepts to come from the Renaissance ("The Enlightenment," 2006). There would be a move away from religion and
atheism began to become popular ("The Enlightenment," 2006). Prior to 1688, theater was banned but when the monarchy came to power once again, there was a better attitude about the
arts ("The Enlightenment," 2006). It was after that time that women would be allowed to perform and also, drama would take on a secular tone ("The Enlightenment," 2006). The eighteenth
century would begin the Age of Reason where there was intellectual discovery even in the face of censorship, which was quite common at the time ("The Enlightenment," 2006).
Religious skepticism would become even more prevalent during the eighteenth century and this was at least in part a consensus of the creation of a scientific view
