extremely important if they are going to finish their education and find employment, and avoid returning to prison. This paper discusses some of the problems facing juvenile offenders; what studies
have said about them; and then designs a data collection method for this population, collects data, describes the findings and creates a plan of action. Discussion There are two main
areas of concern for incarcerated youth: education while in prison, and transitioning back into the community after they are released. Research reveals that first, there is no "one size fits
all" approach to juvenile offenders; prisons, work farms, jails and so on are administered by various governmental agencies at various levels. Mostly, the authority for running prisons goes to the
states. Thus, each one is different and the first thing the student will need to do is decide on a particular youth offender system for study. The problem, as
noted above, is how to help young offenders finish their education and gain employment so that they have a future and do not end up back in prison. Transitional services
can help those leaving confinement, as well as those still incarcerated. For those leaving confinement, "juveniles experiences and training within correction settings must be linked to their experience within their
communities. Transitional services provide this link. Effective transitional programs increase the likelihood of reenrollment in school, graduation from high school, and successful employment" (Transitional support for leaving confinement, 2000).
