Neeleman and Rhoades have the same, complementary, or different visions for JetBlue? Neeleman and Rhoades have complementary visions for JetBlue; both focus on
customers needs and desires. Neeleman strives to use public domain information to identify the routes on which JetBlue is most likely to attract highest passenger levels; Rhoades states that
JetBlue must demonstrate to the customer that it truly cares about them. While these aims superficially appear not to be closely linked, in
reality they are. Neeleman is correct in seeking out the most heavily traveled routes in that choosing to fly those routes allows JetBlue to avoid the bane of the
airline industry, which is flying with empty seats. It has been said that seats on an airplane are highly perishable products, and they are good only until the plane
takes off. Any seat that is empty is a product item that in essence is thrown away. Flying heavily traveled routes ensures that JetBlue will be making each
flight at or near capacity, keeping it profitable and allowing it to remain in business. As for customer focus, Neeleman states that these
heavily traveled routes are the ones that most customers want to fly. Rhoades commits JetBlue to caring about customers. The end result is that, though their reasons differ,
