the United States and was admitted as a freshman at Gateway Community College in New Haven, CT. During my first year at Gateway, I recognized that my academic focus
should be a major in finance, which Gateway does not offer. I have applied for admission as a transfer student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst because of
the colleges excellent reputation and because the college offers a major in finance. The student should offer some background: I have always been an active and participatory
member of educational institutions. During my high school years, I played a significant role in student government, offering support in maintaining discipline among the students of different grades and
creating a variety of extracurricular programs. I organized a number of cultural activities, including school festivals, inter-school competitions and participated in sports activities with other schools. During my
years in high school, I received awards for my planning and programming of social activities. My first year at Gateway Community College was filled with new experiences and
Ive met a lot of valuable people. Ive recognized the differences in the educational design between schools in India and schools in the United States, and have focused my
energies on academic performance, language learning and the development of study skills. I have also enjoyed participating in extra-curricular activities at Gateway Community College, though some of my experiences
have been limited by both the size and academic content offered at the college. It is my hope that a larger school, one with a larger student body and
