such, while often overlooked in this realm, she is often considered to be a very powerful Transcendentalist poet. The following paper first discusses the ideas of Emily Dickinson and how
they relate to Transcendentalism. The paper then examines one tenet of Transcendentalism, the soul, illustrating how many of Dickinsons poems were immersed in this particular aspect of Transcendentalist thought, leaving
no doubt that she was a Transcendentalist poet. The Ideas of Emily Dickinson: Transcendentalism As a poet, and individual, "Emily Dickinson scrutinized everything with clear-eyed frankness" (Selected Poems
of Emily Dickinson: Preface). Her poetry examined everything from death and burial to the unknown (Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson: Preface). She was a poet who "looked upon all life
with a candor as unprejudiced as it is rare" (Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson: Preface). It is such brief yet powerful information as this that we can begin to see
how Dickinson truly perceived her life and the life of humanity with an eye that was very Transcendental. In all honesty it could perhaps be argued that her poetry touched
on all aspects of Transcendentalism in one way or another, for her poetry was very much that which developed as Emily herself went through life examining things and working towards
a higher understanding, an enlightenment, in everything she saw and experienced. In terms of Dickinsons themes there were many, though most people will generally claim that her primary themes were
