p. 3). TA postulates a "positive, humanistic philosophy...that begins with the assumption that we are all OK" (p. 3). What this means is that TA has as one of its
most basic tenets the belief that everyone has within them, at t heir basic core, the potential to be lovable and to love, which means that they also have the
potential for growth and self-actualization (Woollams; Brown, 1979). The philosophy that everyone is "ok" leads to the mot basic assumption in TA analysis and practice?"Im OK and Youre OK"
(Woollams; Brown, 1979). This means that ?no matter what the relationship, wife to husband, father to daughter, employee to employer?the parties enter into it with the understanding that they are
both equal (Woollams; Brown, 1979). Each party has needs, wishes, wants and feelings that are important. Consequently, to foster cooperation and mutuality in relationships, TA stresses the use of contracts
that detail and protect each persons rights and responsibilities (Woollams; Brown, 1979, p. 4). Berne (1966) defined four major components to TA theory: structural analysis (the ego-state model); analysis
of transactions; game and racket analysis and script analysis. He defined an "ego-state" as "a consistent pattern of feelings and experience directly related to a corresponding consistent pattern of behavior"
(1966, p. 364). Stewart (1996) believes this to mean that Berne felt that an ego-state was any set of consistently related behaviors, thoughts and feelings (p. 3). Bernes model
