author carefully balances the elements that make up the woman. On one hand the woman is viewed as assertive and aggressive, lashing out at a society that has wronged her.
On the other hand, she takes her role as a woman in society matter of factly. She is nonchalant about being a mother. It is her calling. Here, the author
perhaps admits that the strong biological urges and characterization of women is true while suggesting that this is not all she is. In fact, in the authors own life, she
had succumbed to female roles, but questioned that existence. Trambley always wanted more for herself than the role that society had ascribed to her. The published book in its entirety
is really a compilation of stories, including one rather brave depiction of a woman who attended a party in the nude. Things like that jar the sensibilities of the average
woman who is perhaps no longer living in the Victorian era but certainly not as bold as Trambley portrays her. Indeed, Trambley is perhaps too harsh, demonstrating that women are
bolder than perhaps they are. Trambley is maybe an exemplification of what feminist authors do too often. That is, the author portrays an unfair, extreme caricature of the woman, and
this is something that she is not based in reality. Again, while Trambley does view the woman in different ways, and not necessarily one way or the other, there are
extremes. Are these extremes warranted? Certainly, the author makes her point. However, this takes away from the realistic portrayal of the female characters. The men and boys also are somewhat
stereotypical. This demonstrates to some extent a lack of skill. At the same time, one cannot accuse Trambley of not being a skillful writer. She most certainly uses words in
