The basic assumption of trait theories is that a person is born with leadership traits. In other words, these theories argue that leaders are born, not made. Individuals are born
with the traits and qualities that make them good leaders. Traits most often identified include adaptability, decisive, dependable, ambitious, energetic, tactful and organized (ChangingMinds.org, Trait, 2010; Cherry, 2010). Other traits
included awareness of social environments and the ability to deal effectively with stress organized (ChangingMinds.org, Trait, 2010). Leadership trait theories were based on psychological trends of the day. The trait
theory was popular between 1900 and 1920 (ChangingMinds.org, Trait, 2010). Even thought traits theories have fallen out of favor, numerous studies in recent years reveal that the traits identified decades
ago are those that todays effective leaders posses. The fundamental difference is that many theorists believe at least some of the traits can be learned. Behavior theories of leadership
focus on what the leader does rather than considering traits, characteristics or qualities. Like behavioral psychology, behavioral leadership theories are based on the premise that leaders can be made; individuals
can learn the behaviors that are needed to be a good leader. This leads directly to leadership development programs (ChangingMinds.org, Behavioral, 2010). A behavioral theory regarding leadership is
