a different way of training a colt. The following paper discusses some of the methods, and techniques aimed at training a colt. Training a Colt As mentioned, there
are many ways in which one can approach the task of training a colt. There are those who argue that simply catching a colt and forcing them to be tied
up is the best way to train. There are also various professionals who take their training on the road, such as the Parellis or GaWaNi Pony Boy. The Parellis and
Pony Boy offer ways in which an individual can train their colt using simplistic and gentle and persistent methods but they offer two different methods. For example the Parellis go
so far as to teach things like getting your horse to lay down on its side and then the rider gets on them and the horse comes up. Their methods
are gentle and persistent but very specific. In the case of Pony Boy he is a teacher who relies heavily on Native American knowledge and he focuses strongly on "the
idea that when you are with your horse, you form a two-person herd. You must, for the safety of yourself and your horse, take the alpha or lead horse role.
And you must maintain that role, or problems will occur" (Poor, 2009). With all the methods out there it appears that the most practical, successful, and common approach today
involves a gentle and gradual approach. And, the training of a colt, who is aged 12-18 months will vary depending on how much human contact they have had up until
