known food chain; McDonalds. Looking at the job, we can examine a task within that job, consider who it is performed and the look at how training needs may be
identified and implemented. The job of the individual here is that of a crew member. This could be full time or part time. The job requires a rang of
tasks depending on placement for that shift. Rather than look at the job as a whole we will look at a single task, as this is how the crew members
learn the job. The task is the toasting of the buns. This may appears to be a trivial job, but we need to consider that the design of the
jobs at McDonalds are based on the scientific management principle, with a single task, such as making a burger, broken down into smaller component parts with different people performing the
different parts of the task repetitively (Bruce and Nylan, 2001). The advantage of this is ease in training of staff. However, if any member of the team fails in the
task the entire production line can be disrupted (Bruce and Nylan, 2001). The job of toasting the buns involved being in charge of two toasters, one for the
hamburger (and cheeseburger) buns, and one for the quarter ponder buns which are a different size. The buns need to be split in half, the crowns, or tops, of the
