capabilities exist and which are needed (Stack et al., 2010). That same international survey of Human Resource practices identified the differences between low-performing and high-performing companies. High-performing companies paid
much more attention to: "managing talent, improving leadership development, enhancing employee engagement, measuring workforce performance, and improving performance management and rewards" (Stack et al., 2010, pp. 11-12). Corporations across the
world identified Google, Proctor & Gamble, and Microsoft as having the best HR practices (Stack et al., 2010). The corporate culture at Google retains its small business aura, which is
evidenced in weekly meetings when any employee can ask the founders about anything. Googles mission is clear to everyone and is embedded in daily life at the company. The company
has one of the most generous compensation and benefit packages in the world. There is an annual employee survey that leads to changes and to development programs (Stack et al.,
2010). Each year, Training magazine rates companies according to their training and development programs. They identify the top 125 companies in the U.S. The organization also has a Hall of
Fame into which companies are inducted based on their training and development programs. The five top companies for Best Practices in 2010 were: Farmers Insurance; Harrahs Entertainment; PricewaterhouseCoopers; Sun Microsystems;
and Wells Fargo (Editors, 2010). Two companies were inducted into the Hall of Fame: General Mills and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. To achieve this honor, a company must be rated in the
