the harshest of lifes adversities can not only be overcome but used as inspiration to become a stronger and better person. The issue, of course, is whether the tragedy
will translate into the individual becoming a victim or whether they will somehow use the tragedy as a positive factor in their lives. There are numerous examples from history,
in fact, where tragedy and grief ultimately translate into increased personal strength. Such was certainly the case with men like Nelson Mandela and Viktor Frankl. Although these men
are from different cultural backgrounds and different historical circumstances, they both were persecuted because of their race or, in Frankls case, his Jewish ethnicity. Rather than taking the defeated
role of a victim, both triumphed to become stronger individuals and they used this strength to change the destinies of others. The thesis can thus be presented that:

Viktor Frankl experienced tragedy at the hands of the Nazis in World War II. Although Frankl and his family were
prominent community members at the time of the Holocaust, Frankl in fact was a noted psychotherapist who had gained an impressive reputation in treating suicidal patients, they were shipped off
to the Nazi concentration camp of Theresienstadt in 1942. One year later his father died while still interred at Theresienstadt. Frankl worked during his interment in general medicine
as well as in suicidal counseling. When he and his remaining family were transferred to Auschwitz he lost his last parent, his mother. Then Frankl was transported to
