was their own will or not. Although the trafficking of women is nothing new, it remains a social problem in every community around the globe. After so many
thousands of years, the problem still pervades society. Historically, men have tried to exert their influence over women, and to a large extent that remains true today - especially in
terms of prostitution. The majority of women selling their bodies on the streets are not happy, well-adjusted women who are confident with their career choice. The sad truth
is, these women most likely are scared, oppressed, lonely and without much hope. More than likely there is a man in her life who is preventing her from making
the decisions which would lead to genuine happiness in her life. The globalization of our society has also impacted the trafficking of women. We now have nearly instant access
to the globe and the opportunities for men to "sell" women are greater than ever before. And yet, essentially at the heart of the matter globalization has changed little.
The hows and whys may be different but the end result is still that men are oppressing the lives of women when they engage them in prostitution for financial
gain. There are a variety of factors which impact trafficking and an understanding of a few of them will highlight the point that although trafficking is executed differently in todays
