learn about traditional South African culture; its called Lesedi Cultural Village, and its multi-cultural (Lesedi cultural village, North West Province). Lesedi is the seSotho word for "light," and the place
was built in 1995 to show tourists today what the areas five traditional cultures are like (Lesedi cultural village, North West Province). There are five traditional dwellings and five families
who live there permanently: the Basotho, Ndebele, Pedi, Xhosa and Zulu (Lesedi cultural village, North West Province). The families that live in the village are actually living history exhibits, but
perhaps thats better than seeing static objects in a museum. They look after chickens and cows and their homes are open to visitors. Lets take a look at one of
these tribes more closely, the Zulu. The Zulu people actively work to keep their traditional culture alive. Each year they hold ceremonies that "revive their culture and tradition"; among these
is Heritage Day, when they celebrate the life of Shaka Zulu, their most powerful king and the founder of the Zulu nation (Culture of the Zulu people). Other distinguishing marks
of the Zulu include their dress, various other festivals, the gendered division of labor, and their healing arts. The dress of the Zulus is distinguished largely by the traditional clothing
of the women, which includes a great deal of beadwork; mens traditional dress is much less fancy (oddly enough, its usually the other way around) consisting mainly of "cowhide that
