The partners are a Korean and a Malaysian company where there are great potential synergies, but to take advantage of this market it is necessary to undertake a partnership with a Chinese company. This paper will consider the different potential problems. General Attitudes China has been a communist country for many years. Despite the changes which began in 1978 and have resulted n a gradual opening up of the markets to capitalist principles, allowing foreign countries entry to the market, there are still many barriers. China is a large country and the insular status has resulted in a lower level of trust in foreign companies. This aspect may be overcome with an emphasis placed on the Chinese partner. Aspects such as language, social values with a different emphasis placed on loyalty, meaning that new brands are less likely to be taken up. There are also different practices, such as payment, with credit cards and payment forms other than cash still having a relative low take up rate in China. However, the opening of the markets has been ongoing for some time, and as such this time may be seen as the beginning of the growth stage of consumer products, and a greater level of individualism arising within the country as the current generations become acclimatised to the new policies. Historical Historically the Chinese have been insular and imported goods or technology were frowned upon. However, as seen above this is changing, but the country remains communist.
