transition in history. And while that is the case, the talk of globalization today appears to suggest that the idea of one united trading entity is new. Of course,
that is not the case. In fact, when looking back centuries, one sees that years of trading has changed the way in which trade is viewed now and has set
the stage for change in the future. Yet, what remains timeless is the fact that trade has enhanced human life and provided unprecedented depth. In fact, without trade, life would
be mundane, boring and lacking in diversity. Trade creates full societies that can be enjoyed and further cements one nation to another. When looking back to trading relationships, it is
clear that the process evolved and was not an abrupt revelation. Further, formal trade had emanated from a less formal condition. European voyages off of the reconnaissance had been preceded
by centuries of indirect trade1 . Hence, it is seemingly a transition to more direct lines of communication where trade could be effected that would change everything. The transitions that
occurred are worth noting, but they really go to an overall ideological shift. When living off of the land, and using what one can grow or create, the idea of
acquiring other objects, garments or foods is rather odd. Sustainable societies did exist prior to the advent of mass trade and although that is true, the interdependencies that have been
created since trade has flourished cannot be changed. It seems as if the relationships that have been built through trade are multitude and intense. It would be hard to fathom
living without a trading society and even the oil is something that is dependent upon by large, western countries. The interdependencies go both ways and it is this sort of
