auto industry and included just ten of the many companies, one of which was Toyota. These researchers commented that for any automaker to be successful, they must be efficient, have
a focused strategy, have the ability to forecast future changes in the industry, have brand recognition, pay attention to underserved markets, and they must have a management approach that is
distributed among the brands (Bradley et al. 2005). They must also be involved in international or global expansion, adhere to all rules and regulations, including environmental-oriented regulations and they must
continue to always improve their operational efficiency (Bradley et al. 2005). Toyota, in fact, does all these things. Using Porters Five Forces analysis will provide insight into the challenges that
face Toyota and all other automakers. In fact, these investigators concluded that Toyota was in the best position of all automakers for future success (Bradley et al. 2005). Toyota is
an old company having been founded in 1937 and entering the American market just 20 years later in 1957 (Bradley et al. 2005). It did not gain much of a
market share until it introduced the Corona model in 1965 and the Corolla in 1968 (Bradley et al. 2005). The company claimed the position of the fourth largest automaker
in 1975 (Bradley et al. 2005). The company has continued to grow quickly (Bradley et al. 2005). Their success has always rested on their forecasting and forward thinking innovative
