Although Britain originally gained its wealth and international
reputation for manufacturing industry, in the latter half of the twentieth century a great deal of the countrys revenue was derived increasingly from tourism, and this is something which can
be attributed in great part to the diversity of the attractions which the country has to offer.
It is evident,
for example, that the range of tourist attractions in Britain is wide and varied, since some of these features and facilities are based around natural geographical features such as beaches
and the countryside, others on ancient buildings and monuments, still others on cultural activities such as theatre and the arts, and several of the more modern attractions such as theme
parks and other family-oriented venues have been specifically designed with the modern tourist market in mind.
One of the reasons why Britain has such a wide range of facilities
to offer both domestic and foreign tourists is its historical and cultural heritage. In common with several other European countries, Britain is consistently popular with visitors from younger nations, such
as the USA, since it can show aspects of historical tradition which go back thousands of years, and by doing so offer a wealth of information into social and cultural
