The following examination looks closely at the significance of festivals and events as a branding strategy for bringing tourists to the destination of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Developing a brand Tourism is the worlds largest industry and provides both an export and a developmental strategy for the worlds poorest countries (Redefining tourism). It is estimated that by the year 2020, three times as many people will travel as they do today (Redefining tourism). With the ramifications of globalization in the world marketplace, the dependence of many countries on tourism continues to grow as other segments of the economy struggle against tough external competition. In order to promote tourism, each country needs to "formulate and manage a tourism strategy, which identifies and justifies its strategic objectives, priorities and targets" (Redefining tourism). Sustainable tourism should become a prime factor in a countrys national export strategy, particularly in regards to developing and transition economies (Redefining tourism). Sources indicate that it is important that tourism should be sustainable.
